Actor Esai Morales was recently hired by the LAPD to do a public service announcement on the dangers of texting and driving. The 52 year old Brooklyn native and star of Caprica is also know for his starring roles in NYPD Blue, La Bamba, and Mi Familia.

Morales, who is of Puerto Rican descent, begins the PSA titled 'HANDS FREE TO LIVE' in a very dramatic tone while riding in the back of a car. "Car accidents are a possibility, a probability," he begins. "What if you don't get a chance to say goodbye? What if there are no more birthday celebrations or friendly conversations because you're just not here? Put the phone down, practice hands free driving. Give yourself and others a chance to participate in life." The narrator then concludes with an order to "Obey the rules of the road."

A few years ago The Daily Mail reported that Morales was rumored to star in an upcoming 9/11 conspiracy film titled September Morn, described as a "Radical view" which "appears to support the conspiracy theory that the September 11 attacks were orchestrated by the U.S. government." Co-stars were alleged to be Martin Sheen, Woody Harrelson, and Ed Asner, but the film apparently never came to fruition.

In August 2008, WeAreChangeLA conducted an interview with the actor, whom they described on youtube as as "Esai Morales, a great actor and a great soul, speaks out for the 9-11 Truth Movement." Morales was later featured in another video asking Democratic Congressman Dennis Kucinich a question about the Bilderbergers.

This just goes to show that the 'stigma' or consequences feared by those hesitant to speak out about important controversial societal events may not be as severe as imagined.

LAPD tweeted about Morales in the PSA today, announcing "#LAPD - #PSA "Hands Free to Live" focuses on distracted driving features "NYPD Blue" & "Caprica" star @Esai_Morales".
