Looks like no one told this well known WWI soldier that there was no such country as Palestine, during World War I.

Paul B Hendrickson, born Oct. 8, 1896 in (ironically) Palestine, Illinois, was a soldier in the U.S. Army and a veteran of the 33rd Division in World War I. He married Cecil Frances Rife on March 25, 1923 and died on September 4, 1990. He is well known for the fascinating series of letters he wrote during WWI. He is also well known in Texas for the detailed maps he drew of Houston's Camp Logan, while he was stationed there.

In this series of fascinating letters between Paul and his protestant mother, the two lament "the hold Catholicism was getting on our people," and how they look forward to "fulfillment of "a certain prophecy about the Jews them that we used to discuss." The mother reminds the son how she longs for "the new order that will be ushered in by and thru the Jews in their home- land - Palestine."

He also discusses an "anti-Catholic organization," he'd heard of through his Masonic membership and tells his mom "It is going to come to some crisis soon. I hope I can soon have the privilege of discussing some of them with you. I have not changed my opinion as regards them - only have become stronger in it." The mother says "for revolution is now close at our doors, anarchy on its heels. Now this don't mean that every body is going to get killed no no. for there will be millions no doubt who will live thru it and will lay hold upon the new order that will be ushered in by and thru the Jews in their home-land - Palestine. for out of Jerusalem shall go forth the law and His word from Mt. Zion." Fascinating reading from a historical perspective, regardless of one's personal opinions.

I recently wrote a story in Camp Logan Houston Riots of 1917, and that is how I came across Paul B Hendrickson's letters. [See The First Flash Mob? Black Army Soldiers Mutiny & Attack Houston TX, 1917; 35 People Killed, 13 Soldiers Court-Martialed, Hanged & Burned As Punishment .]

Paul also wrote a fascinating letter telling the story of how an "old Jew" came into their army camp in Houston and sold maggot-infested pies to soldiers for 35 cents! Imagine if someone did that to a group of cops or soldiers today? Why they'd be vilified as a terrorist and tried for committing war crimes, and it would make international news. Documented History: WWI Letters Reveal "Old Jew" Sells Maggot & Vermin Infested Pies To WWI Soldiers: Put In Stockade With Only Water & His Pies To Eat
[Note: These stories are the kind of unique. interesting, and oftentimes amusing historical perspective you get on LibertyFight.com. You can visit our Archive Page here. To sign up for our mailing list you can contact me here, or follow LibertyFight.com on Twitter.]

Paul is also famous for the map he drew of camp logan on Houston, TX. The article Finding Camp Logan Ruins at Memorial Park (2/16/11) notes "Finding remnants of Camp Logan is not hard, thanks to a map drawn by Paul B. Hendrickson, a soldier stationed there whose extensive letters home shed light on life at the camp."

Here are the index and contents pages for all of Paul's letters. The page notes "When he passed away in 1990, his daughter Betty (Hendrickson) Gill found neatly packed away in the family home 125 letters he wrote home during his time in service. The letters were to his mother and to the neighbor girl who after the war became his wife."

The letters I will feature today involve the family's views on Jews (very much for it), Freemasonry, (very much for it) Catholicism, (very much against it); "prophesies concerning Jews" which the two discussed, and Palestine, which the mother views as "the Jews home-land."

One fascinating aspect I found is that Paul was a freemason (a very proud freemason at that) and he had a strong hatred for the Catholic church. Paul's mother, Ethelinda Hendrickson, revealed her mindset through her letters and she can be described as what today would be called a Zionist - thus, of course she expressed disdain for Catholicism too. It's no mistake the their 'Judeo-Masonic' mindset is revealed in excerpts of various letters, in which they remark disdain and dislike of Catholicism.

In a Letter from Paul B Hendrickson to his father and mother, March 30, 1919, he wrote, in part:

Dear Father & Mother I am sending you a list of some of the pieces we play and will mark them in the order in which you should buy them - get the best ones first. Also some literature from around Nice and another small article concerning the Jews that seems to fulfill a certain prophecy about them that we used to discuss. It seems to be coming to pass - even tho it is slow to us - but would seem very fast - as seen from eternitys stand point of view. The essay is for you to keep in my trunk for me.
I do hope the helmet and the last box I sent comes thru alright, will you write me the articles you rec. in the last box - I wish to know just what comes thru (sent 4 packages in all). Well you should hear our conversation this evening discussing the kind of suit we are going to get when we get home. Some time things look very favorable & sometimes they dont. So daddy you took my job of trimming the trees. Well I am sorry I could not get home in time for it.

Paul was replying to a letter his mother wrote to him on March 26, 1919, in which she wrote about "the hold catholicism was getting on our people" and how she eagerly awaited the time when "a New King has taken His reins and rules in righteousness," and that a "new order that will be ushered in by and thru the Jews in their home- land - Palestine. for out of Jerusalem shall go forth the law and His word from Mt. Zion."

Say! they have quite a time you can hear the guns go off and all kinds of bugle calls[.] I was certainly interested in your description of the old Monastery (now the taps is blowing) and surroundings and your thoughts concerning the unfortunates who had to be imprisoned in its old walls. There is going to be a time not far off when all hidden things will be brought to light and O what a revealing of dark deeds there will be when the history of those convents and castles etc. will be made known. You, in speaking of the hold catholicism was getting on our people and that you didnt care to look in the future very far. Do you really know that there will be no need to look far in the future for revolution is now close at our doors, anarchy on its heels. Now this dont mean that every body is going to get killed no no. for there will be millions no doubt who will live thru it and will lay hold upon the new order that will be ushered in by and thru the Jews in their home-land - Palestine. for out of Jerusalem shall go forth the law and His word from Mt. Zion.

There is an awful sight of trouble in the various countries over there. discentent turmoil etc. to make one feel that they will want to go to fighting again. But I hope and pray they will not keep our boys over there till all the revolution and anarchy is run its course. for if they do they wont get back till the restitution is established - or in other words the New King has taken His reins and rules in righteousness. The Commercial News has a piece in about the 33rd div. coming in May. Had a letter from Uncle Joe today saying they look for John in May. Well I guess you will think this letter rather broken and disconnected but daddy has the music going and I find myself entering right into it. So I believe I will lay it aside and write when I can hear myself think at least. So good night

Now please dont laugh at me, for I said good night and layed aside paper and pen. But now after about 10 or 15 minutes take it up again. There goes "Over There" in all its granduer of music. ....Monday when we rec'd the mail from you I had a letter for you out in the mail box. And I was sewing when I looked up and saw the Carrier going by on the north sidewalk so I hurried thru the room on to the porch to get the letter and take it down to him for I couldn't tell that he was going to stop so as he got to the gate he said "I thought you would come out to the gate" I said why,- have you a letter from my boy. he said "I should say I have" and by that he began to pull one after another out of the package and it really seemed more like a dream that was too good to be true then any thing else. So when I came in the house I did have a feast and a visit with my dear boy that I had almost began to think would never happen again. ............

I will write you one of the paragraphs in Uncle Joes letter. "The boys are all anxious to get back home. They are tired of loafing. I fear they will have a hard time taming themselves down to the old ruts again, Many will not do it. They will join the ranks of the discontented and help swell the worlds great disquietude, turmult, and turmoil, It is coming, it hastens" etc. etc. Well daddy ...........New York had a big parade for the 27 div. - or rather they (the boys) formed the parade, the bigest thing of the kind ever took place there. This is Thurs. morning

Your Loving Mother. Ethelinda Hendrickson

In a letter to his mother written february 11, 1919, Paul wrote "The anti catholic organization you mentioned - and what you said their objective was - is not our order - for surely if it were - some thing would have been said to us. I would not make the assertion that some of our members were not in it - for they may be. I have heard of such an organization - but I thot it was disbanded thru orders from the government just lately. As you know o[u]r president seems very lenient towards them. It is going to come to some crisis soon. I hate to look very far into the future if the people dont soon wake up to the facts of things as they realy are & not as they think they are. I've learned many interesting things over here concerning them. I hope I can soon have the privelege of discussing some of them with you. I have not changed my opinion as regards them - only have become stronger in it. Things we have known only thru reading of them - I've seen to be a fact - and can come nearer appreciating some of the things I've read now that I know they are not exaggerated and are without doubt the truth - pure and simple.

Included below are some other references Paul made to freemasonry and Catholicism.- Fascinating reading from a historical perspective, regardless of one's opinion.

[NOTE: You can go to this page to conduct a google search on the pages on with the words freemason, or Catholic and Jew to read through many of these gems.]
