Anti-Semitic Attack at UC Berkeley as Man Bursts Into Classroom Screaming & Pointing Small Black Object at Palestinians - NO media

This startling act of hate at UC Berkeley occurred only one day after the Umpqua, Oregon shootings where nine people were murdered. The suspect in this case was arrested by police and removed from the classroom, but this has not gotten any coverage whatsoever- except from one Berkeley community newspaper.

George Salem, the parent of a UC Berkeley student, wrote of the account: (excerpt:)

"I could not wait to attend my first political activist event on the Berkeley campus Friday, Oct. 2 while I waited for my daughter to finish her midterm exam. Not only was I going to see my daughter's tuition dollars at work, fighting for justice and against oppression, but I was going to learn more about a subject in which I am very interested: life in the West Bank of Palestine. Speaking was Bassem Tamimi, a human rights activist from the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh. The event was held in a small classroom in Wheeler Hall and attended by fewer than 50 people. A few minutes into the talk, the classroom door suddenly burst open, and a young man with his face covered by large, dark glasses burst into the classroom, holding a dark-black object (luckily, it turned out to be an iPhone) and screaming while pointing the phone's camera at all the attendees. This very real and scary scene occurred just one day after a crazed gunman murdered nine students and a teacher at Umpqua Community College in Oregon.

Needless to say, it was a very tense and intimidating moment for everybody in the room. His ranting went on, and he refused to leave the room or let Tamimi continue his discussion. Moreover, he repeatedly called everyone in the room terrorists and made sure we all knew he was recording our faces. Clearly, his goals were to prevent Tamimi and all of us from executing our First Amendment rights and to intimidate us by recording our presence. It was also a clear case of anti-Semitism. Now, you may be asking: How is an individual who is targeting a Palestinian activist and his audience anti-Semitic? It is because I and most of the people in the room were Semites, which are defined, according to, as 'members of various ancient and modern peoples originating in southwestern Asia, including the Akkadians, Canaanites, Phoenicians, Hebrews, and Arabs.' Although my religion is Roman Catholicism and I was born in the United States, I am also half-Lebanese, born to a first-generation son of Lebanese immigrants..."

The paper's website states "The Daily Californian is an independent, student-run newspaper published by the Independent Berkeley Students Publishing Company, Inc. The Daily Californian covers both the UC Berkeley campus and the city of Berkeley... Established in 1871, The Daily Californian is one of the oldest newspapers on the West Coast and one of the oldest college newspapers in the country."

I wrote to the author, asking a few questions.

Re: Bassem Tamimi speech at UC Berkeley

Mr. Salem, regarding your interesting account here, do you know if police released the name or any follow-up details (such as charges) on the suspect who burst into the classroom and disrupted (terrorized) the Palestinian speaker event?

A cursory search reveals not a single news item about this incident.
I wonder why that is? If an Arab (or anyone else) had burst in to a meeting of a pro-Israeli group, one day after the Oregon shooting no less, it would have made international news. Any further info would be appreciated, thanks

A Bassem Tamimi speaking tour website begins "Bassem Tamimi is an internationally recognized Palestinian human rights activist from the West Bank farming village of Nabi Selah, where weekly nonviolent demonstrations are held in opposition to illegal Israeli settlement construction and military occupation. Tamimi has been detained by the Israeli authorities over a dozen times, at one point spending three years in administrative detention without trial. In 1993, as a result of interrogation by the Israeli Shin Bet, he was left unconscious for eight days and partially paralyzed for months to follow. He has been described by the European Union as a "human rights defender". Amnesty International has demanded his release as a "prisoner of conscious". In 2013 Bassem Tamimi and his family were featured in a New York Times Magazine cover story. A few weeks ago on August 30, 2015, the Tamimi family and village of Nabi Selah made national US headlines when videos and photographs of Basse's wife daughter physically preventing the assault and arrest their son/brother by an Israeli soldier went viral over social media. As part of his month long spring 2015 U.S. speaking tour, Tamimi will visit cities across America to speak about his villages work for freedom and justice and the struggles his family and others in his village face from injuries and arrests by the Israeli military."

More info on Bassem Tamimi can be found at Wikipedia, Electronic Intifada , this New York Times magazine article, and this must-see CNN Story from August 30th.

Five years ago, a group of Muslim students at UC Irvine 'dared' to heckle an Israeli Ambassador and were arrested and charged with criminal conspiracy for disrupting the meeting. They were also forbidden to meet or pray together on campus. It should be very interesting to see if the UC system takes the same type action against this perpetrator who terrorized the Palestinian speaker and meeting attendees. See the full 'Irvine 11' Archives here.

The University of California Board of Regents, which, believe it or not is led by former DHS chief Janet 'Big Sis' Napolitano, is currently considering whether to adopt a new definition Of "Anti-Semitism" to Include 'Anti-Zionism'. Proponents of this change suggest that the UC system needs to adopt the official U.S. State Department Official Definition of 'Anti-Semitism.' The board of Regents recently heard extensive testimony from both sides, which is worth a watch. One female Jewish student who testified claimed to have been victimized by 'Anti-Semitic' slurs such as when someone told her that "Zionist Jews Were Responsible For 9/11!".

Rand Paul asked about funding Israel:

Paul is a blatant and unapologetic Zionist, which initially dismayed many of his father Ron's longtime supporters. I started a few years ago to chronicle Paul's looniness. Rand actually admitted in an obscure Senate speech a few years ago that he "meets with Israeli groups daily" in his office. Here is the video of Rand saying this!

"There's probably 20 different groups in our country who support the nation of Israel and support them as our ally. I speak to them all the time. I visit with them daily and weekly in our office." (2 minute video)

Why we're at it, why hasn't this video of Donald Trump gotten more attention in the alternative media? You think just because Trump's reading his new script written by his Jewish handlers that Trump isn't still as open-border, pro gun-control and zionist as he has always been, as admitted in his own books? READ THIS ARTICLE and watch this vid! "My name is Donald Trump and I'm a BIG FAN of Israel" (Trump Endorses Netanyahu 1/15/13).
This video has Hebrew subtitles, no less, made personally by Trump for Netanyahu!!

In a recent interview, Ron Paul was asked why religious people seem to be so pro war, especially in recent years. The elder Paul blamed "evangelical Zionism." This is ironic because Kelly Paul, Rand Paul's wife, admitted in an interview a few years ago that their trip to Israel changed Rand Paul's position on Israel. Listen to Ron Paul discussing evangelical Zionism here:
