This is a follow-up to our article earlier this week, Caught On Video: Crazy LAPD Cop Reaches For His Gun In Reaction To Crying 10 Year Old Black Boy. Sha Dixon is with Black Lives Matter L.A. and she is the mother of the ten year old boy featured in that story. She was arrested January 5th attempting to deliver a letter to Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck. The LAPD had blocked the entrance and put up barricades, along with a cadre of dozens of bullet-proof-vest wearing officers. Meanwhile, they were letting all other members of the general public in their building. The video of the exchange is here. Finally, after many attempts to reason with the officers and simply deliver a letter outlining their concerns about police abuse in the black community, Sha said "when you are allowing, you are allowing everyone else to walk past these barriers to walk in that door, but you get some black mothers here, that are demanding it's got to stop, killing our children, and we can't come in?? And we can't come in??? Fuck you, man!" She then started to daintily climb over the metal barricade in an act of civil disobedience and was surrounded by police, who grabbed her and arrested her. is proud to present our exclusive interview with Ms. Sha Dixon, along with a copy of the letter she was trying to deliver. Question: Sha, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. I'll preface by admitting that I really resonated with you when, after a great deal of time trying to reason with a cadre of LAPD officers blocking you and your group from their entrance, you finally indignantly pronounced "fuck you, man!" to those cops and hopped their border. That was classic, I loved it.

Since I've never heard of you, can you tell me how long you've been an activist- would you describe yourself as a civil rights activist? Did you grow up in L.A.?

Sha Dixon: 1. I am a mother and a concerned tax paying citizen. I consider myself a human rights activist. I am originally from the South, Nashville Tn to be exact. I've lived in France, Amsterdam, Atlanta, and in Los Angeles for 3 years now.

Q. I would like to know how old is your son, and who was the man that helped you over the barrier. Is that your husband?

Sha Dixon: 2. My son is 10 years old and in the 5th grade. The man is Damon Turner, he is an organizer with Black Lives Matter.

Q. Is it possible you can send me a copy of the letter which you were trying to deliver to Beck?

Sha Dixon: 3. I will send you a copy of the letter to beck. We met with him last week and have a meeting scheduled with District Attorney Jackie Lacey this Friday.

Q. Who was the 2nd woman who was arrested that day?

Sha Dixon: 4. The lady who I was arrested with is Dr. Melina Abdullah. She is a professor at California State University, Los Angeles.

Q. Do you feel that there is a racial divide in this country, or, aside from that, do you also feel that there is a divide of police vs. the people, both black and white? Even if you contend that minorities have had it worse for many years, as I would definitely concur, I believe that people of all races have been attacked and victims of this fascist police state. Maybe it's only recently that the whites are feeling the brunt of what people of color have felt for years?

Sha Dixon: 5. There is definitely a racial divide in this country. Black bodied folks have been targets of hate, anger, oppression, and aggression since we were enslaved and brought here. Since we are the minority we are an easy target. Many white Americans don't care that at least 1 black person is murdered by a cop or vigilante everyday bc they aren't being killed at this rate. We live in a militarized police state so black communities are now occupied but white communities will be occupied as well in the future if we don't stop police violence. One of Black Lives Matter's national demands is to De-Militarize the police.

Q. Specifically, why did the LAPD say they arrested you? Were you mistreated? Any plans for a lawsuit?

Sha Dixon: 6. The LAPD illegally arrested me and did not file charges against me. They did however walk me through 3 police departments. They videoed, photographed, wrote down my information, and fingerprinted me at 2 precincts. They also transported me to each precinct in a car with 3 cops. My attorney and I are still weighing our options regarding filing a lawsuit.

Q. How long did they detain your friend and was she charged?

Sha Dixon: 7. Melina went through the same arrest process as me. We were detained for about 6 hours.

Q. Tell me how that makes you feel that the cop reached for his gun when your son was upset.

Sha Dixon: 8. Seeing the cop reach for his gun in response to my sons cry was disturbing, alarming, sickening, and saddening. I was and am completely disappointed with the officer. Had that action lasted 1 second longer my son could have been dead. That is my concern. Cops are trigger happy and afraid when black bodied folks are around. They are quick to shoot and kill us because they are not held accountable for their actions. The LAPD kills more community members than any other police department in the country. I became an activist because I fear for my sons life in this country. This video is a great example of my concern. No mother should have to live with the fear that a public servant will kill their child. Unfortunately, that is the reality of every black mother in this country. Thank you very much for your time.

Martin Hill interviews Vincent Arias: I have over seven million views on my youtube channel. But this video, with only 6,000 views, is still my absolute favorite. Be sure to watch this powerful video of a man who was shot by cops, charged with attempted murder of a police officer, spent 2 years in prison and was acquitted of all charges by a jury of 12, without a lawyer, representing himself! His webpage is here: "Shot In Reverse, Saved By God": The Vincent Arias Story
