Americans generally don't think of Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands as helping out the U.S. in the so-called war on terror. But according to a press release issued yesterday by the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Forces and a large number of allies are busy wiping out ISIL forces all over Iraq and Syria. Oddly, Russia is not listed anywhere as an ally in the fight against ISIL in 'Operation Inherent Resolve.'

No specific details were given as to how exactly these countries contributed to the 'fight' against 'ISIL.' ISIL stands for 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.'

In a separate announcement, The DoD also announced that U.S. Taxpayers Are Spending Over $11 Million Dollars Per Day To Fight ISIL.

Late last year, Melkite Greek Catholic archbishop Jean-Clement Jeanbart of Aleppo, Syria, said that Russia's President Vladimir Putin's Military Intervention In Syria "Serves the Christian Cause, Is A Source Of Hope, and that "Putin Is Solving A Problem"

Similarly, Syrian Archbishop Jacques Behnan Hindo of Hassak-Nisibi issued a strongly-worded denunciation of the United States propaganda and dangerous meddling into his nation. Hindo said that the U.S. 'western military' should stop interfering in his country and stop supporting al-Qaeda. The 74-year-old added that it's not their place to oust Assad. "The Syrians will decide if and when Assad has to go away, and not the Daesh (ISIS) or the West," he said.

In 2013, The highest-ranking Catholic Clergyman in Syria, Primate and Patriarch of the Syriac Catholic Church Ignatius Joseph III Younan, condemned the lies and hypocrisy of the United States and other Western nations, saying they "bear responsibility for what is happening in Syria."

Wikipedia notes:
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), alternatively translated the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) is a Salafi jihadist militant group that adheres to an Islamic fundamentalist, Wahhabi doctrine of Sunni Islam. Derived from its Arabic name ad-Dawlah al-Islāmiyah fī 'l-ʿIrāq wa-sh-Shām (الدولة الإسلامية في العراق والشام‎), the group is also known under the acronym Daesh.
The group has referred to itself as the Islamic State (الدولة الإسلامية‎ ad-Dawlah al-Islāmiyah) or IS since it proclaimed a worldwide caliphate in June 2014 and named Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as its caliph. As a caliphate, it claims religious, political and military authority over all Muslims worldwide. The group's adoption of the name "Islamic State" and idea of a caliphate have been widely criticised, with the United Nations, various governments, and mainstream Muslim groups rejecting its statehood or caliphhood. As of December 2015, the group has control over vast landlocked territories in Iraq and Syria with population estimates ranging between 2.8 million and 8 million people, where it enforces Sharia law. ISIL affiliates control small areas of Libya, Nigeria and Afghanistan and operate in other parts of the world, including North Africa and South Asia.

ISIL gained prominence, when in early 2014 it drove Iraqi government forces out of key cities in its Western Iraq offensive, followed by the capture of Mosul and the Sinjar massacre, almost causing a collapse of the Iraqi government and prompting a renewal of US military action in Iraq. In Syria, the group has conducted ground attacks on both government forces and rebel factions. The number of fighters the group commands in Iraq and Syria, was estimated by the CIA at 31,000, with foreign fighters accounting for around two thirds, while ISIL leaders claim 40,000 fighters, with the majority being Iraqi and Syrian nationals.

The U.S. DoD press release states:

Military Strikes Continue Against ISIL Terrorists in Syria, Iraq

From a Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve News Release

SOUTHWEST ASIA, December 31, 2015 — U.S. and coalition military forces have continued to attack Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists in Syria and Iraq, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve officials reported today.

Officials reported details of the latest strikes, noting that assessments of results are based on initial reports.

Strikes in Syria

Attack and remotely piloted aircraft conducted seven strikes in Syria:

-- Near Ayn Isa, two strikes destroyed an ISIL fighting position and an ISIL building.

-- Near Mar’a, four strikes struck four separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL vehicle, an ISIL fighting position, and wounded four ISIL fighters.

-- Near Manbij, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit.

Strikes in Iraq

Fighter, attack, and bomber aircraft conducted 17 strikes in Iraq, coordinated with and in support of Iraq’s government:

-- Near Kisik, one strike destroyed an ISIL bunker.

-- Near Mosul, nine strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit, two ISIL staging locations, three ISIL headquarters, and destroyed 21 ISIL fighting positions.

-- Near Ramadi, five strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL staging area, 10 ISIL fighting positions, seven ISIL heavy machine guns, an ISIL sniper position, an ISIL rocket-propelled grenade position, and denied ISIL access to terrain.

-- Near Sinjar, two strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL vehicle and an ISIL fighting position and suppressed an ISIL mortar position and a light machine gun position.

Task force officials define a strike as one or more kinetic events that occur in roughly the same geographic location to produce a single, sometimes cumulative, effect. Therefore, officials explained, a single aircraft delivering a single weapon against a lone ISIL vehicle is a strike, but so is multiple aircraft delivering dozens of weapons against buildings, vehicles and weapon systems in a compound, for example, having the cumulative effect of making those targets harder or impossible for ISIL to use. Accordingly, officials said, they do not report the number or type of aircraft employed in a strike, the number of munitions dropped in each strike, or the number of individual munition impact points against a target.

Part of Operation Inherent Resolve

The strikes were conducted as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, the operation to eliminate the ISIL terrorist group and the threat they pose to Iraq, Syria, and the wider international community. The destruction of ISIL targets in Syria and Iraq further limits the group's ability to project terror and conduct operations. Coalition nations conducting strikes in Iraq include the United States, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Jordan, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Coalition nations conducting strikes in Syria include the United States, Australia, Bahrain, Canada, France, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
