President-elect Trump has made some excellent choices for his cabinet picks, including Scott Pruitt for EPA and General John Kelly for DHS. Never in a million years would an establishment Republican hack have picked any of these type people. Here is the latest example.
49-year-old John Michael "Mick" Mulvaney has served as a U.S. Congressman in South Carolina's 5th District since 2011.
In September 2015, Mulvaney endorsed Rand Paul For president. In a very enthusiastic speech at a Paul campaign event, Mulvaney hopped up on a makeshift wooden stage, tossed his sportscoat to an aide, and began "I'm sick of it. I've had enough and I didn't know what else to do!"
"Congressman Mulvaney brings a wealth of experience on economic, budgetary, and fiscal issues to his new role. Rep. Mulvaney has long been a strong voice in Congress for reining in out-of-control spending, fighting government waste and enacting tax policies that will allow working Americans to thrive. Rep. Mulvaney believes getting America's fiscal house in order is a key component of President-elect Trump's America First plan to create millions of jobs and grow the economy.
"We are going to do great things for the American people with Mick Mulvaney leading the Office of Management and Budget," said President-elect Trump. "Right now we are nearly $20 trillion in debt, but Mick is a very high-energy leader with deep convictions for how to responsibly manage our nation's finances and save our country from drowning in red ink. With Mick at the head of OMB, my administration is going to make smart choices about America's budget, bring new accountability to our federal government, and renew the American taxpayer’s trust in how their money is spent."
"It is a great honor to be appointed Director of the Office of Management and Budget," said Congressman Mulvaney. "The Trump administration will restore budgetary and fiscal sanity back in Washington after eight years of an out-of-control, tax and spend financial agenda, and will work with Congress to create policies that will be friendly to American workers and businesses. Each day, families across our nation make disciplined choices about how to spend their hard earned money, and the federal government should exercise the same discretion that hardworking Americans do every day."
On December 20, neocon globalist Paul Krugman tweeted "Are people noticing that the Trump economic team is shaping up as a gathering of gold bugs?"
Krugman also called Mulvaney a "conspiracy theorist," referring to a report that he had spoken at a John Birch Society meeting in July.
In July 2016, TheState.com reported
"We are disappointed, but not surprised, that Mick Mulvaney would deliver a major speech to a fringe extremist group that openly brags about believing in conspiracy theories and has been barred by the conservative movement for being too extreme," S.C. Democratic Party communications director Matthew Ellison said in an email. "Mick's ideological extremism and his refusal to collaborate with those across the aisle and even with less extreme members of his own party have been harmful to his constituents."
Mulvaney said the Democrats are trying to make something out of nothing.
"I regularly speak to groups across the political spectrum because my constituents deserve access to their congressman," the Indian Land Republican said in a statement. "I can't remember ever turning down an opportunity to speak to a group based on the group's political ideology."
Mulvaney was listed in a John Birch Society mailer as scheduled to speak on "the Federal Reserve's role in bailing out Europe."
Mother Jones reported:
"Mother Jones obtained audio of Mulvaney's speech to the John Birch Society chapter. In the speech, Mulvaney blasted the Federal Reserve, saying its actions have "effectively devalued the dollar" and "choke[d] off economic growth." He praised bitcoin as a currency that is "not manipulatable by any government."
He told his audience, "You all put out some really good stuff and it's always interesting." He said he was "looking forward to reading The Shadows of Power," a 1988 book by James Perloff with the subtitle "The Council on Foreign Relations and the American Decline." The book advances conspiracy theories about the New York-based think tank, alleging that it advocates "the creation of a world government." After referring to this book, he told the crowd, "Keep doing it."
The man in line to bring together President-elect Donald Trump's federal budget is a big believer in gold, according to financial disclosures.
Mick Mulvaney, Trump-s pick to lead the Office of Budget and Management, owns significant amounts of precious metals and gold-mining stocks based on financial disclosures compiled by Bloomberg.
According to the filings, Mulvaney held $50,000 to $100,000 in precious metals at the end of 2015. In addition, the South Carolina congressman holds stock in numerous gold and silver mining corporations totaling $252,000 to $855,000, according to the filing."
Rep. Mick Mulvaney - Nominee for Director of the Office of Management and Budget
A lifelong resident of the Carolinas, Rep. Mulvaney attended Georgetown University where he graduated as an Honor Scholar - the highest award given to students of the Georgetown School of Foreign Service - in International Economics, Commerce and Finance. After college, Rep. Mulvaney attended law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a full academic scholarship. He then completed his formal education at Harvard Business School's OPM program in 2006.
Rep. Mulvaney has broad business experience across many fields. After practicing law, following graduating law school, the entrepreneurial spirit captured him and he started his own law firm. Later, he ran his family's real estate business and then went on to start a small homebuilding company, and owned and operated his own restaurant.
Rep. Mulvaney has used his educational, professional, and business background to bring a focus on jobs, business and the economy to his work in Congress. He currently serves on the House Financial Services Committee as well as the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
In Congress, Rep. Mulvaney co-authored Cut, Cap, and Balance Act, which curbed and capped needless federal spending, and provided for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. Additionally, Rep. Mulvaney's Congressional office has returned hundreds of thousands of dollars from its office budget to the U.S. Treasury over the past few years. Rep. Mulvaney and his wife Pam were married in 1998, and are the proud parents of triplets.
