The United States Department of Defense has published a breakdown of how much money American taxpayers are spending to fight ISIL in Syria and Iraq.
A more detailed breakdown of the daily costs posted on the site reveals that the cost is actually $11.2 million dollars per day, with the largest expenditures coming from the U.S. Air Force. The Air Force accounted for 69% of costs for thee week of November 30, 2015, with the Army at 13%, Navy 11% and SOCOM 7% [See graph below.]
'Military Pay' Category accounted for a mere 1% of overall expenses.
In a separate press release, DoD announced that Belgium, Canada, Denmark, & the Netherlands are among the U.S. allies fighting ISIL in Iraq. Who knew?
The DoD provides an interactive map where visitors can view detailed information on airstrikes from any specific day or week.
Below is a video with a military spokesman discussing Iraq challenges. He warns "This is gonna take a while!," because "houses are rigged to blow!"
The DoD press release states, in part:
The president has authorized U.S. Central Command to work with partner nations to conduct targeted airstrikes of Iraq and Syria as part of the comprehensive strategy to degrade and defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL.
As of 3:59 p.m. EST Dec. 22, the U.S. and coalition have conducted a total of 9,041 strikes (5,959 Iraq / 3,082 Syria).

As of Dec. 21, U.S. and partner nation aircraft have flown an estimated 61,508 sorties in support of operations in Iraq and Syria.
Cost of Operations
As of Nov. 30, 2015, the total cost of operations related to ISIL since kinetic operations started on Aug. 8, 2014, is $5.36 billion, and the average daily cost is $11 million for 480 days of operations. A further breakdown of cost associated with the operations is here.
