Meet The Only Republican Who Voted Against Audit The Fed Bill: U.S. Senator Bob Corker
By Martin Hill
January 15, 2016

As most people know, the U.S. Senate blocked Rand Paul's 'Audit the Fed' bill this week. Senate Bill 2232, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2015, required 60 votes to pass, but only got 53. Bernie Sanders and Marco Rubio were among those who voted for it. Three Senators failed to vote on the measure: Ted Cruz was a no show; Senator Al Franken of 'Saturday Night Live' fame, a Democrat from Minnesota; and 72-year-old Republican Senator Dan Coats from Indiana. [You can see the official roll call vote tally here.]

But 63-year-old Robert Phillips "Bob" Corker, Jr. from Tennessee is the only Republican Senator who actually voted against the Audit the Fed bill.

On his bio page at Bob writes: "On November 7, 2006, Bob Corker was elected to serve the people of Tennessee in the United States Senate. He is a member of the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, the Foreign Relations Committee and ranking member of the Special Committee on Aging. Bob and his wife, Elizabeth were married on January 10, 1987 and have two daughters, Julia and Emily. The Corker family lives in Chattanooga."

While he has supposedly expressed doubt about so-called human caused global warming, Bob Corker is still in favor of a carbon tax. He opposes tax cuts, he expressed opposition to a proposal which would have gotten rid of the 18-cents-per-gallon federal gasoline tax. He heartily endorsed the 2008 Wall Street bailout. He supports taxing people for online purchases.

While mayor of Chattanooga Tennessee from 2001-2005, Corker put his assets in a blind trust to avoid the appearance of conflict of interest, but caused scandal when it was revealed that he "met often with employees from his private companies while mayor from 2001 to 2005, and he shared business tips with others."

Despite posing as a fiscal conservative at times, his record speaks for itself and proves the opposite. Corker wants to provide over a BILLION dollars, from the tax slaves, in Homeland Security grants to states! He also opposes trials for those suspected of terrorism.

Corker is a rabid Zionist who strongly supports sanctions on Iran. He writes "Failure to impose consequences sets a dangerous precedent before sanctions are lifted and the leverage shifts to #Iran."

Most ironically, despite being an open sycophant to the banksters and the federal reserve, Corker often drones on about 'ending modern slavery' and has even proposed an 'End Modern Slavery Initiative Act.' This despite the fact that the fraudulent and destructive federal reserve policies have enslaved the American people and destroyed peace, well-being, and prosperity for over 100 years.

On his official Senate website, Corker drones on about Washington's "mounting debt" but never addresses the head of the snake, the federal reserve, and the fact that we borrow money at interest from a private central bank. Bob Corker is an absolute fraud and a criminal.

In his presentation Corker Warns of Looming Debt Crisis - Says First Step in Tackling Should Be a Cap on Spending, Corker writes: "There is absolutely no construct for fiscal discipline at the federal level. If we do not change the path we are on and dramatically reduce our level of spending in relation to our country's gross domestic product, I believe we are in danger of becoming the first generation of Americans to leave our country in worse shape than we found it," Corker said. "We need to change the conversation, and I think that means focusing on the big picture first. Page one is agreeing on the amount of spending we can sustain as a country."

On his 'Fiscal Responsibility' page, Corker writes:

"I'm a strong believer in pursuing appropriate fiscal and economic policy, rooted in free market principles, with a strong focus on getting the federal government's spending under control, lowering taxes and reducing the deficit."
Senator Corker is profoundly concerned about the financial health of our country. For far too long our government has failed to rein in excessive spending that increases the national debt. Continuing down this path weakens the dollar, jeopardizes America's economic standing in the world, and saddles our children and grandchildren with a crushing federal debt. It is time for Congress to make difficult choices about our government’s priorities, and get our spending under control. Senator Corker believes that both parties must come together to balance the federal budget, keep taxes low and cooperate with each other to find fiscally responsible solutions to the challenges facing our country.

In a manic series of tweets on December 17, 2015 regarding the '#IranDeal,' Corker wrote "Since the #IranDeal was signed, Iran has convicted an American Washington Post reporter. Iran has launched cyber-attacks against the State Department. Iran has defied a U.N. travel ban and sent Qasem Soleimani to Russia. Iran has exported weapons to Syria and Yemen. Iran has violated the U.N. ballistic missile test ban twice. And Iran has lied to the #IAEA in the PMD investigation."

Wikipedia notes:

Corker served as mayor of Chattanooga from 2001-2005. Corker's roommate at the University of Tennessee Sigma Chi fraternity was Jimmy Haslam whose brother is the current Tennessee governor Bill Haslam and who in 2012 bought the Cleveland Browns football team. He favors imposing a tax on carbon. Corker opposed John McCain's 2008 campaign proposal to suspend the 18-cents-per-gallon federal gasoline tax, calling it "pandering extraordinaire". He chose to endorse the initial $350 billion (2008) of Wall Street bailout money.. In 2013, Corker endorsed the Marketplace Fairness Act and voted for its passage in the Senate. The Marketplace Fairness Act enables states to begin collecting sales taxes on online purchases...

Blind trust
Shortly after taking office as mayor, Corker voluntarily placed his Hamilton County real estate holdings and businesses into a blind trust to avoid "even the perception of any conflict". Corker stated that the visibility of his properties and public knowledge of his ownership in them served as another check on his actions as mayor. On October 11, 2006, The Commercial Appeal reported that the blind trust that Corker set up to run his businesses to avoid conflicts of interest while he was mayor "may not have been all that blind". According to e-mails discovered by the Appeal (some of which had previously presumed to be lost): "Corker met often with employees from his private companies while mayor from 2001 to 2005, and he shared business tips with others. Corker also got help organizing his 2001 mayoral campaign from City Hall, where a government secretary passed on voting lists and set up meetings for the millionaire commercial real estate developer." The e-mails show that Corker often met with officials from his private company, the Corker Group, which was part of the blind trust, while he was mayor. When asked about these e-mails by the Appeal, Corker said that he thought the blind trust had "worked very well" and that he had sold most of his business holdings so that he could avoid the appearance of conflicts of interest in the Senate.

Here is Corker last month insisting that the U.S. needs to punish Iran.

Corker Opening Statement at First Iran Nuclear Deal Oversight Hearing

December 17, 2015 - At the first oversight hearing for the Iran nuclear deal, U.S. Senator Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today warned that the failure to impose consequences on Iran for violations of U.N. Security Council Resolutions and other destabilizing actions sets a dangerous precedent before implementation of the agreement, when sanctions are lifted and the leverage shifts to Iran.

Corker Statement on Tonight's State of the Union Address:
WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement in advance of President Obama's final State of the Union address: "While I know the tradition is that the president updates the American people each year in this way, I don't read too much into these speeches,' said Corker. 'I attend these addresses out of respect, but I will be paying a lot closer attention to the actions that come afterwards. To really strengthen the state of our union, the president should use his final year in office to work with Congress on growing the economy, repairing our fiscal house, and confronting the threats we face both at home and abroad." Corker Statement on Expected Executive Action on Gun Laws
ATLANTA, Ga. - U.S. Senator Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) released the following statement regarding reports that President Obama will take executive action on gun laws. "It's not hard to understand why so many Tennesseans fear that the president will abuse his authority ?and act in a way that infringes upon their Second Amendment rights,' said Corker. 'Like most Americans, I want to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals and dangerous mentally ill people, but the president's expected unilateral actions would be divisive and detrimental to real solutions. After reviewing the details, I will work with my colleagues to respond appropriately to ensure the Constitution is respected.' [LINK.] [Another LINK.]
