Rand Paul On Opposing Elliot Abrams for Deputy Secretary of State: "A Never Trumper Should Never Be In The State Department!" Rand Paul On Opposing Elliot Abrams for Deputy Secretary of State: "A Never Trumper Should Never Be In The State Department!"

Rand Paul had a great interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer yesterday.

They started out talking about the Obamacare repeal and replacement.

"We absolutely should not wait a year to introduce a replacement bill, that is a terrible terrible idea," Rand says.

"We're not having a lot of luck. There's a lot of angry people around here that can't get over the election. So I am hopeful that the Democrats will ya know, calm it down to a lower level, and that they will work with us.

"The replacement should not be another government program, it should not be obamacare light. It should be market reforms to allow less expensive insurance to more people," Rand continues.

"They just can't come to grips with the fact that they lost the election. They're very angry and they're lashing out at everyone."

They then continue to talk about Elizabeth Warren and conclude discussing Senator Paul's refusal to vote for Elliot Abrams for Deputy Secretary of State.

Rand tells Wolf why Abrams, who was a rabid 'never-Trumper,' should not be approved.

"Particularly since they don't agree with President Trump's vision of 'nation building's a mistake; regime change is a mistake; Iraq war is a mistake;' I mean, Elliot Abrams was one of the chief architects of the Iraq war! Also he was convicted of lying to Congress. We have to have people in the Executive Branch who will listen and understand that they work for the people and they work under the direction of the Congress."

"...No war is to be initiated without the approval of Congress. That's in the Constitution and yet Elliot Abrams was involved in covert wars..."

Wolf Blitzer then goes into a tirade defending his pal Abrams and concludes that Abrams was doing a great job, simply "implementing President Bush's policies. He has had a pretty distinguished career, what's wrong with bringing in a critic?"

Rand explains "Well if President Trump was telling us that he didn't like nation building, why would he want someone to run the State Department that's for nation building? If President Trump said that the Iraq war was one of our biggest mistakes in recent decades, why would he want somebody that was an architect of this?"

Paul continues "I don't want a government within a government. I don't want a secret government thats waging secret war without the permission of the people. Our founding fathers didn't want this. I don't believe Donald Trump wants that. So all I would caution is that he ought to be very wary about picking someone who has their own agenda, and it's an agenda diametrically opposite and opposed to everything President Trump has said he's for, so I don't see how they fit together and I'm hoping it doesn't happen."

Regarding Abrams conviction of lying to congress, Blitzer pleads "But he was pardoned by president Bush afterwards! to which Rand replies, "Pardon doesn't always mean you're not guilty, it just means you have friends in high places."

Great job on Senator Paul's part. He has said and done a lot of great things lately. I will continue to report on the latest developments. You can watch this interview below.
