In the video below, Catholic Priest Fr. James Martin asks "So Why Are so many Christians still against migrants and refugees?" Fr. Martin discusses Christians who use the bible to justify their position.

There are a few problems with his position. First off is that he begins his video with the phrase "Why do some people HATE REFUGEES?"

It's dishonest and disingenuous to automatically characterize people opposed to mass, unchecked third-world immigration as those who "hate refugees."

Second is the presumption that all of these cases are actually legitimate asylum cases, which is a stretch at best. Most of the illegal immigration into the United dtstes is economic migration, poor people from Mexico and South America trying to sneak in for economic betterment. No one doubts that they are legitimately suffering financial hardships, but that's not a default excuse to let them all in, nor is it included as a legal reason for valid asylum. The U.S government has a website outlining legitimate reasons for asylum and what the process is.

Unfortunately, some people who actually qualify for U.S. asylum don't even get it. For example, when an elderly academic named Ernst Zundel was living in Tennessee with his American wife, he was arrested and grabbed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and deported to Canada, where he was tortured for several years in solitary confinement and considered a grave danger to to state. [I conducted an exclusive interview with Zundel's lawyer here.]

Zundel was eventually extradited from Canada to Germany where he was sent to rot in prison for several more years for thought crimes. After his release from German Prison, Zundel appealed to the United States government for a chance to spend his last days with his wife, but officials in the Trump administration refused his request. He died in Germany shortly thereafter. The Zundel case is in actuality one of the rare legitimate cases where he should have definitely qualified for political asylum. Zundel not only 'feared persecution,' but he was indeed actually 'persecuted' and imprisoned for his 'political opinions' in the U.S., Canada and Germany.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is a component of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Their webpage on asylum seekers states, in part,

Every year people come to the United States seeking protection because they have suffered persecution or fear that they will suffer persecution due to:

[See: Why Aren't THESE People Considered For Asylum In The United States? and Dr. Jim Fetzer interviews Ernst Zundel, 8/3/2012.]

In Europe, the mass illegal immigration which is destroying their societies is not a legitimate refugee crisis either. Most are single young adult black men, with no women, children, grandparents, wives or families. Europe has every right to restrict and resist immigration and enforce their borders, especially given the rape and violent crime epidemic, as well as the idleness, and mass-unemployment epidemics that have resulted as an effect of this insane unchecked immigration into Europe.

One very valid point that Fr. Martin makes is that not all laws are moral. That is very true, as he mentions, conservatives will often oppose laws they dont agree with, such as abortion and 'gay' marriage.

The Catholic Catechism actually states that we have every right to disobey immoral laws in Section 2242, which I include below. Section 2243 even includes information on when armed resistance to government is allowed and moral.

Here is Father Jim Martin's video, and below I outline what the Catholic Church's actual Catechism states on immigration, which states that 'Immigrants are obliged" to respect the country that receives them, and to "obey its laws".

Also below is a shocking official document from U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishop's on immigration, which actually states that a "duty of government is to secure one's border and enforce the law for the sake of the common good."(!) I suspect that both these documents will likely surprise you, as they are not known by most people..

Wikipedia notes:

James J. Martin SJ (born December 29, 1960), also known as Jim Martin, is an American Jesuit priest, a writer, and editor-at-large of the Jesuit magazine America. In 2017, Pope Francis appointed Martin as a consultant to the Vatican's Secretariat for Communications. Some of Martin's theological views, especially on homosexuality, are controversial in the Catholic Church.

[See Vatican cardinal critiques Jesuit Martin on homosexuality and In rare WSJ op-ed, Cardinal Sarah says Fr. Martin's LGBT outreach falls short.]

To refute Fr. Martin's claims, I will start with a must-hear homily by my favorite traditional Latin rite Catholic priest about WALLS and borders and how God ordains it. It is simply common sense. it's titled "Heaven has Walls!". It is brilliant and no Christian theologan can refute it. Share this homily widely, and listen to much more at my favorite website, ReginaProphetarum.org.

U.S. Catholic Bishops Shocking Document: The "Duty of Government Is To Secure One's Border And Enforce The Law For The Sake Of The Common Good."

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, in a shocking August 2013 document, stated that the DUTY of the U.S. government is to secure the border, enforce the laws, and intercept unauthorized migrants!

The Bishops stated, in part, that "The Catholic Catechism instructs the faithful that good government has two duties, both of which must be carried out and neither of which can be ignored... The second duty is to secure one's border and enforce the law for the sake of the common good. Sovereign nations have the right to enforce their laws and all persons must respect the legitimate exercise of this right...

Enforcement: The U.S. Catholic Bishops accept the legitimate role of the U.S. government in intercepting unauthorized migrants who attempt to travel to the United States..."

Here is more from the Bishop's document.

Catholic Social Teaching

The Catholic Catechism instructs the faithful that good government has two duties, both of which must be carried out and neither of which can be ignored. The first duty is to welcome the foreigner out of charity and respect for the human person. Persons have the right to immigrate and thus government must accommodate this right to the greatest extent possible, especially financially blessed nations: "The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin. Public authorities should see to it that the natural right is respected that places a guest under the protection of those who receive him." Catholic Catechism, 2241.

The second duty is to secure one's border and enforce the law for the sake of the common good. Sovereign nations have the right to enforce their laws and all persons must respect the legitimate exercise of this right: "Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants' duties toward their country of adoption. Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens." Catholic Catechism, 2241.

... Enforcement: The U.S. Catholic Bishops accept the legitimate role of the U.S. government in intercepting unauthorized migrants who attempt to travel to the United States. The Bishops also believe that by increasing lawful means for migrants to enter, live, and work in the United States, law enforcement will be better able to focus upon those who truly threaten public safety: drug and human traffickers, smugglers, and would-be terrorists. Any enforcement measures must be targeted, proportional, and humane.

Hey Trump & Pope Francis, Get This: U.S. Catholic Bishops Official Document States The "Duty of Government Is To Secure One's Border And Enforce The Law For The Sake Of The Common Good."

The Catechism of the Catholic Church Section 2241 states, in part, "Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens."

What The Cathechism of the Catholic Church Actually Says on Immigration Might Surprise You 9/24/15

2241 The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin. Public authorities should see to it that the natural right is respected that places a guest under the protection of those who receive him.

Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants' duties toward their country of adoption. Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens.

2242 The citizen is obliged in conscience not to follow the directives of civil authorities when they are contrary to the demands of the moral order, to the fundamental rights of persons or the teachings of the Gospel. Refusing obedience to civil authorities, when their demands are contrary to those of an upright conscience, finds its justification in the distinction between serving God and serving the political community. "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."48 "We must obey God rather than men":49

When citizens are under the oppression of a public authority which oversteps its competence, they should still not refuse to give or to do what is objectively demanded of them by the common good; but it is legitimate for them to defend their own rights and those of their fellow citizens against the abuse of this authority within the limits of the natural law and the Law of the Gospel.50

2243 Armed resistance to oppression by political authority is not legitimate, unless all the following conditions are met: 1) there is certain, grave, and prolonged violation of fundamental rights; 2) all other means of redress have been exhausted; 3) such resistance will not provoke worse disorders; 4) there is well-founded hope of success; and 5) it is impossible reasonably to foresee any better solution.
