[Wikipedia notes: "LGBT is an initialism that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. In use since the 1990s, the term is an adaptation of the initialism LGB, which itself started replacing the term gay when in reference to the community beginning in the mid-to-late 1980s, as many felt the term gay community did not accurately represent all those to whom it referred... The initialism LGBT is intended to emphasize a diversity of sexuality and gender identity-based cultures and is sometimes used to refer to anyone who is non-heterosexual or non-cisgender instead of exclusively to people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. To recognize this inclusion, a popular variant adds the letter Q for those who identify as queer and/or are questioning their sexual identity as LGBTQ, recorded since 1996."]
For those of us in the generation directly between rapper Macklemore and Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson, what a disaster it is to watch our culture disintegrate before our eyes. A society built upon distractions, divisions, pointless reality shows and fluff TV.
I generally pride myself on the fact that I am far-removed from knowledge of the latest pop-culture tripe. I haven't watched tv for years and am not famililiar with the latest music, movies or popular actors. However, last night I became aware of a super-viral video that I'd never heard of.
On KTLA5 was a video of what passed for a Christmas Holiday concert program. 'Iheartradio' was broadcasting a performance by a white 'rapper' who sounded like he was trying to mimic Eminem. With a hostile glare through puffs of white smoke, the rapper sneered as he made the sign of the cross. Now being a Catholic traditionalist, that immediately caught my attention. What followed was the ugliest anti-Christian, pro-homosexual screed I've ever heard. And turns out, completely unbeknownst to me, it's a so-called 'worldwide sensation,' nominated for song of the year.
It was a song titled "SAME LOVE" (read the lyrics) by Seattle based rapper 'Macklemore' (never heard of him) performing along with Ryan Lewis (never heard of him) and a young woman named Mary Lambert (never heard of her.) It's what's become known as the new "same-sex equality anthem" - a bold, in-your face proclamation glorifying all things sodomite. The official youtube video alone has nearly 200 million views. It's a worldwide sensation which appears to have been been literally sold, praised and lauded as 'the new virtue.' It rose to No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 last summer. The Macklemore/Lewis duo had two previous number one pop hits, "Thrift Shop" and Can't Hold Us."
Macklemore begins singing "When I was in the third grade I thought that I was gay" and about having two gay uncles.
"I remember doing the math like, "Yeah, I'm good at little league"He then attacks religion as the core problem of the world's ills.
A preconceived idea of what it all meant
For those that liked the same sex
Had the characteristics
The right wing conservatives think it's a decision
And you can be cured with some treatment and religion
Man-made rewiring of a predisposition
Playing God, aw nah here we go
America the brave still fears what we don't know
And God loves all his children, is somehow forgotten
But we paraphrase a book written thirty-five-hundred years ago
I don't know
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
It's the same hate that's caused wars from religionLambert then joins in, her pretty voice melding into the catchy chorus. Here is some media coverage the song got, and the version they sang at the MTV Music Awards 2013:
Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment
The same fight that led people to walk outs and sit ins
It's human rights for everybody, there is no difference!
Live on and be yourself
When I was at church they taught me something else
If you preach hate at the service those words aren't anointed
That holy water that you soak in has been poisoned
When everyone else is more comfortable remaining voiceless
Rather than fighting for humans that have had their rights stolen
I might not be the same, but that's not important
No freedom till we're equal, damn right I support it
"Several radio programmers say surveys of listeners predict the song will continue to rise. "It's been phenomenal," said Tom Poleman, the president for national programming at Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, which operates 850 stations. "Everything we are seeing shows it's going to be another monster hit for them." Macklemore said he composed the rap in March 2012 after reading a news article about a teenager who committed suicide after being bullied. He said he thought the epithets routinely heard in rap music might be partly to blame, and that denying gay adults the right to marry might also contribute to despair among gay teenagers. He also wanted to write a song, he said, to support his two gay uncles and his gay godfather in Seattle, all of whom are in committed relationships.
From the start, the duo intended "Same Love" to have a political impact. Released as a single in July 2012, they offered it as a theme song to groups working to pass Referendum 74, which legalized same-sex marriage in Washington State. Some profits from the single were donated to the advocacy group Washington United for Marriage. In October, Macklemore and Mr. Lewis released a video for the song with a rosy depiction of a gay marriage that political organizers said helped influenced the vote. ...The same month, Ellen DeGeneres, who is gay, invited the duo to perform the song on her show.
"grew up poor in Everett, Wash., was given a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, and went through a period of drug and alcohol abuse, a time, she said, when she was struggling to come to terms with a series of traumas, including a gang rape at 17, and a pattern of molestation by her father when she was a small child."
Literally moments after I was inundated with all this SAME LOVE garbage, as if poetic justice was needed in my cable tv foray, the story broke about the Duck Dynasty program. Unlike the Same Love song, however, I had actually seen the Duck Dynasty tv program before, while visiting someone.
Watching what unfolded next, I can't help but be reminded of Bishop Richard Williamson, another old guy interviewed by an allegedly 'hapless reporter' who simply tells it like he sees it, but is then thrown into a firestrom and brought up on charges based on what he dared to innocently utter to the reporter.
In this case, Phil Robertson was interviewed by Drew Magary of GQ:
"It seems like, to me, a vagina- as a man - would be more desirable than a man's anus. That's just me. I'm just thinking: There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I'm saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical." ...Everything is blurred on what's right and what's wrong," he says. "Sin becomes fine."Now, nothing that Phil Robertson said was incorrect whatsoever. It's the culture that's backwards, not Phil. I got news for you. Phil is normal. A&E is not. A&E, by falsely characterizing Phil's comments as something worthy to be punished, is the one who is backwards. CNN reported that Duck Dynasty, "one of the most popular shows on American television" with 14 million viewers a week, was immediately put on hiatus by A&E Network. CNN's Piers Morgan had a black homosexual guest on who said "that's just not who we are as Americans anymore," adding that Robertson needed to "face the consequences" and "the marketplace should decide." Morgan added "I think he should be fired, I think it's absolutely repulsive."
What, in your mind, is sinful?
"Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men," he says. Then he paraphrases Corinthians: "Don't be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers - they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."
The reason Duck Dynasty is popular is because the people are normal, and not politically correct. But when Hollyweird runs the show, the 'anti-homo redneck' has to go. After all, who runs Hollyweird?
We have a battle of the old vs the new. When I was a kid, there were no outed homos on tv. Only later did they try to spread this deranged idea around. They tried, over the generation to alter the entire construct of society, and change "what we believe in."
We had John Ritter's character Jack Tripper on Three's Company, who pretended to be gay in order to live with two chicks, Janet and Chrissy.
Then we had Too Close For Comfort with Ted Knight and JM J Bullock, the squirly boy-friend of his daughter. My Two Dads was a weird show about two dads, but it was because the mom didn't know who the real father was.
At the same time, however, the people, the majority of whom still hold traditional beliefs about men, women and family life, are left to side with a guy that supports the likes of Mitt Romney for president- Phil Robertson, in the same GQ article, explained why he voted for Romney in 2012. Totally removed from the real issues which affect Americans, at least he sells a lot of duck merchandise.
MTV recently lumped rapper Macklemore in with the Pope, both characterized as heroes of 2013. After all, they both love homos! For those who aren't familiar with Catholic teaching, the Church Catechism on this matter is posted below. The Pope didn't say anything that hasn't been taught for years:
Best of 2013: The Best, Most Memorable Quotes Of The Year Posted 12/17/13 11:55 am EST by Claire Biggs in Best of 2013, Bullying Sucks, LGBTQ
"As the year comes to an end, we're still replaying some of this year's most memorable soundbites in our heads. There were many things that got us talking this year, but the quotes below have kept us focused on the issues, while simultaneously inspiring us to push harder for the things we believe in. Here are our picks for the most kick-ass quotes of 2013:
+ Macklemore Backs Up "Same Love" When Mary Lambert joined Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on stage to accept the VMA for Best Video with a Social Message, millions held a collective breath waiting for the speech that would become one of the most touching moments of the night. Clutching his Moonman, Macklemore quoted his "Same Love" anthem and delivered one of the most important quotes (and lyrics) we heard all year.
+ Pope Francis Does Not Pass Judgement Since being ordained earlier this year, Pope Francis has shocked millions around the world with his words and actions. He's reportedly snuck out of the Papal residence to serve the homeless and has made it clear that he has no right to judge LGBTQ people. The leader of the Catholic Church might be new to the Papacy, but we hope that his devoted followers embrace his idea of a Church that is concerned with helping others and not "unhealthy" from "clinging to its own security."
Chastity and homosexuality
2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,141 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.
2392 "Love is the fundamental and innate vocation of every human being" (FC 11).
2393 By creating the human being man and woman, God gives personal dignity equally to the one and the other. Each of them, man and woman, should acknowledge and accept his sexual identity.
2394 Christ is the model of chastity. Every baptized person is called to lead a chaste life, each according to his particular state of life.
2395 Chastity means the integration of sexuality within the person. It includes an apprenticeship in self-mastery.
2396 Among the sins gravely contrary to chastity are masturbation, fornication, pornography, and homosexual practices.
2397 The covenant which spouses have freely entered into entails faithful love. It imposes on them the obligation to keep their marriage indissoluble.
2398 Fecundity is a good, a gift and an end of marriage. By giving life, spouses participate in God's fatherhood.
2399 The regulation of births represents one of the aspects of responsible fatherhood and motherhood. Legitimate intentions on the part of the spouses do not justify recourse to morally unacceptable means (for example, direct sterilization or contraception).
2400 Adultery, divorce, polygamy, and free union are grave offenses against the dignity of marriage.
141 Cf. Gen 191-29; Rom 124-27; 1 Cor 6:10; 1 Tim 1:10.
142 CDF, Persona humana 8.
