The only politician Mel Gibson ever endorsed snubbed him The only politician Mel Gibson ever endorsed snubbed him

On March 17th 2010, Congressman Tom McClintock gave a speech on the House floor in which he touted Israel's 'rightful sovereignty' over the West Bank, and bemoaned 'rockets are now routinely launched against Israeli civilians' from the Gaza strip. Mel Gibson, on the other hand, is infamous for allegedly telling a Malibu police officer "F*****g Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world...Are you a Jew?"  Hard to imagine that these two would have much in common- but they, in fact, shared a common cause; albeit a short-lived one- a mere 4 years ago.

To my knowledge, actor Mel Gibson has only publicly endorsed one candidate during his Hollywood career: Tom McClintock. It was in 2006, and a little background about McClintock might be helpful.

California State Senator Tom McClintock ran for governor of California in the 2003 recall election against Arnold Schwarzenegger. I volunteered for his campaign, attended his rallies, and met Tom several times. McClintock had a good track record. Both his votes in the legislature and his rhetoric reflected true limited-government ideals and respect for individual liberties. These principled ideals were illustrated in a speech he gave in the state senate in 2001, entitled Freedom and Firearms, When Schwarzenegger sadly won the election and met George Bush in California for the first time as governor, I was so disgusted that I went and protested outside, and was featured on the 11 o'clock NBC news that night. {see minute 5 in this video). That should give you an idea of what a true believer I was. This is probably why Mel Gibson was inspired to endorse him also.

This is precisely why, however, when I saw McClintock vehemently endorse Schwarzenegger a mere three years later in the 2006 governor's election, I vowed not only to never support the phony turncoat again, I promised to expose this fraud at every turn in his political career. There's nothing worse than someone who espouses one line and works towards another. How a so-called libertarian minded patriot could endorse an gun-banning, open-border advocate abortionist such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, was beyond comprehension. Particularly since I had attended, and filmed, many of McClintock's speeches where he had properly  and meticulously maligned Schwarzenegger and his socialist ideology.

In the years that followed, McClintock went on to endorse a gaggle of neocons, including Fred Thompson for president. Even after Thompson dropped out of the race, McClintock refused to endorse Ron Paul, and told me on the radio that "I'm not sure that Ron Paul is presidential timbre'.  McClintock most recently endorsed failed candidate and  Al Gore donor Steve Poizner for governor. McClintock is now a U.S. Congressman, and since taking office he has voted for the Patriot Act, supports the undeclared wars, and even voted to mandatorily seize DNA from Americans who weren't convicted of any crime. So much for 'individual liberties', eh?  Much of  this history is outlined in the recent article Rep. McClintock gives lip service to sovereignty after endorsing open border globalists for years .

In 2006, Mel Gibson personally endorsed Tom McClintock for lieutenant governor of California. Gibson wrote a three page letter endorsing Tom, and McClintock's campaign mailed them out several times. In the letters, Gibson lamented "a government that was founded to protect our fundamental God-given rights is now becoming destructive of those rights". The letter stated, in part,

"When I find that rare politician who will stand his ground for what is right- no matter what the pressure or consequences- I take notice.
"During the recall election in California, I saw such a person. He stood solidly for principles that might not be politically correct- but that were right and true. And because he stood his ground, millions of Calfornians heard his message and recognizeed that it was the direction California needed to take. And even though he didn't win their votes, he won their hearts and minds.
"...He is State Senator Tom McClintock, and he's the kind of man we need to promote to higher public office at every opportunity. A few months ago, I had the opportunity to talk with Tom and found him to be exactly the person we got to know during the recall campaign- knowledgeable, articulate and courageous. And I was excited to learn of his interest in running for Lieutenant Governor next year..
I told him that he has my support- and I don't often support political candidates. But I love this state and I believe it is worth fightng for... I hope you are a person who is willing to stand up and fight for the fundamental principles that this country's Founders believed in..." (
You can see a copy of the letter here).

After Mel Gibson's DUI arrest and alleged drunken tirade against Jews, McClintock went on KFI's John and Ken show the week of August 9, 2006 and told the KFI hosts that he met Gibson once in 2004 and spoke to him for about an hour. According to Tom, Gibson told him that he voted for him in the recall. They discussed issues and Gibson later wrote a campain fundraising letter which the McClintock campaign used, quite successfully. McClintock concluded by saying he instructed his staff to be sure to no longer use the Gibson letter. The headlines read  'Republican Candidate Drops Gibson Endorsement',  and Politician shuns Gibson backing. McClintock's spokesman at the time said "Tom saw the news and the situation as it was unfolding with Mel Gibson and made a conscious decision to direct people not to use the letter any further. He was disillusioned by the situation with Mr Gibson".

McClintock's official Congressional website links to the youtube video of his recent speech 'Path to Conflict', Following is the text: (video is below).

March 17, 2010 3:01 PM House Chamber, Washington, D.C.
"M. Speaker: I rise to express my great concern over recent statements by Administration officials regarding Israeli housing construction in that nation’s capital city. History warns us that appeasement of mutual enemies is the surest possible way to destroy alliances and to invite aggression, and yet the rhetoric of this administration is taking us down this very dangerous road. Israel has every right to allow construction its capital city and throughout the West Bank -- over which it exercises rightful sovereignty. The administration seems to have forgotten that Jordan attacked Israel in 1967 – not the other way around – and the result was the Israeli acquisition of this land. The Israelis haven’t forgotten that – nor have they forgotten the folly of unilaterally giving up the Gaza Strip, from which rockets are now routinely launched against Israeli civilians. Imagine the danger to Israel’s capital by repeating that mistake in East Jerusalem. Appeasement all but guarantees the escalation of conflict."

Patriots should their eye on Tom McClintock, since he oftentimes seeks their support. You can read more  on this topic in my McClintock section on the sidebar.
