Historical Quotes

"If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." James Madison, 4th U.S. President and "Father of the Constitution"

"The moral and constitutional obligations of our representatives in Washington are to protect our liberty, not coddle the world, precipitating no-win wars, while bringing bankruptcy and economic turmoil to our people." - Congressman Ron Paul, M.D.

"God grants liberty only to those who love it and are always ready to defend it."- Daniel Webster

"The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive." -Thomas Jefferson

"Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master." George Washington

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a litle temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor security" Benjamin Franklin, 1765

"The course of history shows that as a government grows, Liberty decreases." Thomas Jefferson

"All men having power ought to be distrusted to a certain degree." - James Madison

"The evils of tyranny are rarely seen but by him who resists it." -John Hay (1872)

"The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws." - Tacitus

"The original American patriots were those individuals brave enough to resist with force the oppressive power of King George. I accept the definition of patriotism as that effort to resist oppressive state power. The true patriot is motivated by a sense of responsibility and out of self-interest for himself, his family, and the future of his country to resist government abuse of power. He rejects the notion that patriotism means obedience to the state. Resistance need not be violent, but the civil disobedience that might be required involves confrontation with the state and invites possible imprisonment." Congressman Ron Paul

President John F. Kennedy said this in a speech, weeks before his asassination:

"The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret pro- ceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarrented concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it."

Retired Congressman Dr. Ron Paul has asserted that "We in the past have always declared war in the defense of our liberties or go to aid of somebody...But now we have accepted the principle of preemptive war - we have rejected the Just War theory of Christianity. We have to come to our senses about this issue of war and preemption and go back to traditions and our constitution and defend our liberties and defend our rights."

"I don't know where Bin Laden is. I truly am not that concerned about him"
George W. Bush, 3/13/02

The quote above is from a press conference 6 months after 9/11, archived on the official white house website. Why isn't George Bush concerned about the man he claims was responsible for the slaughter of 3000 innocent lives?

"When a strong man fully armed guards his palace, his possessions are safe". Luke 11:21

"A free people ought not only to be armed but disciplined" George Washington

"To disarm the people is the most effectual way to enslave them." - George Mason, George Mason, 3 Elliot, Debates at 380 (Mason is considered the "Father of the United States Bill of Rights.")

"The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." -- (Thomas Jefferson)

"The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed." (Alexander Hamilton, The Federalist Papers at 184-8)

"Americans have the right and advantage of being armed - unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms." (James Madison, The Federalist Papers #46 at 243-244)

"The great object is that every man be armed" and "everyone who is able may have a gun." (Patrick Henry, in the Virginia Convention on the ratification of the Constitution. Debates and other Proceedings of the Convention of Virginia,...taken in shorthand by David Robertson of Petersburg,

"Though defensive violence will always be 'a sad necessity' in the eyes of men of principle, it would be still more unfortunate if wrongdoers should dominate just men." - St. Augustine

"Without doubt one is allowed to resist against the unjust aggressor to one's life, one's goods or one's physical integrity; sometimes, even 'til the aggressors death.... In fact, this act is aimed at preserving one's life or ones goods and to make the aggressor powerless. Thus, it is a good act, which is the right of the victim." St. Thomas Aquinas

The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able may have a gun." Patrick Henry

"Those who hammer their guns into plowshares will plow for those who do not." Thomas Jefferson, Third President of the United States

"The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed" Thomas Jefferson letter to Justice John Cartwright, June 5, 1824.

"The best we can help for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed." Alexander Hamilton, The Federalist Papers at 184-8

"The ruling class doesn't care about public safety. Having made it very difficult for States and localities to police themselves, having left ordinary citizens with no choice but to protect themselves as best they can, they now try to take our guns away. In fact they blame us and our guns for crime. This is so wrong that it cannot be an honest mistake." -Malcolm Wallop, former U.S. Sen. (R-WY)

"An armed man is a citizen. A disarmed man is a subject." Anon.

Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence ... From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to insure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable . . . the very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that is good" (George Washington)

Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined" (Patrick Henry, 3 J. Elliot, Debates in the Several State Conventions 45, 2d ed. Philadelphia, 1836)

"Jesus said, 'But now whoever has a purse or a bag, must take it and whoever does not have a sword must sell his cloak and buy one.'" - Luke 22:36

As Jacob Hornberger of the Future of Freedom Foundation aptly explains, The Constitution Doesn't Give Rights to Anyone, including Americans:

"...the Constitution doesn't give anyone, including Americans, any rights, nor does it purport to. Instead, the purpose of the document is to prohibit the federal government, including the U.S. military, from infringing upon or interfering with people's preexisting rights. In other words, people's rights don't come from government or from documents that bring government into existence. They come from nature and God. They exist independently of government and the Constitution. That is, even if there were no federal government and no Constitution, people would still have their natural, God-given rights. Such rights preexist government."
2004 Libertarian presidential candidate and Constitutional scholar Michael Badnarik, in his book Good to be King, states "I define a right as something you can do without asking for permission. The opposite of a right, therefore, is something you cannot do without asking for permission." Badnarik provides a free download of his chapter 'Rights vs. Privileges', in which he states "The most important concept in this book is the difference between rights and privileges. For that reason, this chapter can be downloaded from my web site at no charge, and may be reproduced and distributed without written permission, as long as it is copied intact and without modification.1 A right is defined by Black's Law Dictionary as "a power, privilege, (sic) faculty, or demand, inherent in one person and incident upon another - the powers of free action." Please note that rights are "inherent" in a person. This means that it is physically impossible for rights to be extracted from a person by any means."

Retired Congressman Dr. Ron Paul, in his farewell speech to Congress, stated "Our Constitution, which was intended to limit government power and abuse, has failed." The Appendix to Paul's book Liberty Defined lists THE TEN PRINCIPLES OF A FREE SOCIETY, beginning with number one: "Rights belong to individuals, not groups; they derive from our nature and can neither be granted nor taken away by government."

Judge Andrew Napolitano, a well-known Catholic commentator and legal analyst, in his article No More Asking for permission to speak, explains "Our right to exercise the freedom of speech comes from our humanity, not from the government." In Guns and Freedom, Napolitano writes "As we have been created in the image and likeness of God the Father, we are perfectly free just as He is. Thus, the natural law teaches that our freedoms are pre-political and come from our humanity and not from the government, and as our humanity is ultimately divine in origin, the government, even by majority vote, cannot morally take natural rights away from us... The historical reality of the Second Amendment's protection of the right to keep and bear arms is not that it protects the right to shoot deer. It protects the right to shoot tyrants, and it protects the right to shoot at them effectively, thus, with the same instruments they would use upon us."

Napolitano also points out that Obama Doesn't Believe in the 2nd Amendment and that the Second Amendment Was Written To Protect Right To Shoot Tyrants Not Skeet Shooting

James Bovard, in his book Freedom In Chains explains "The notion of the citizen's inviolable right to liberty - the underlying principle of the Declaration of Independence - has practically vanished from the American political landscape. Attorney General Janet Reno, in a 1995 speech vindicating federal action at Waco, informed a group of federal law enforcement officers: "You are part of a government that has given its people more freedom... than any other government in the history of the world." Reno's portrayal of freedom as a gift from the government epitomizes the shift in American political thinking away from the individual and towards the State as the fount of all good and all rights. If freedom is a gift from the government to the people, then government can take freedom away at its pleasure."

"For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places." Ephesians 6:12.

As Pope Leo XIII explained in his Encyclical HUMANUM GENUS 'On Freemasonry' in 1884,

"We wish it to be your rule first of all to tear away the mask from Freemasonry, and to let it be seen as it really is; and by sermons and pastoral letters to instruct the people as to the artifices used by societies of this kind in seducing men and enticing them into their ranks, and as to the depravity of their opinions and the wickedness of their acts. As Our predecessors have many times repeated, let no man think that he may for any reason whatsoever join the masonic sect, if he values his Catholic name and his eternal salvation as he ought to value them. Let no one be deceived by a pretense of honesty. It may seem to some that Freemasons demand nothing that is openly contrary to religion and morality; but, as the whole principle and object of the sect lies in what is vicious and criminal, to join with these men or in any way to help them cannot be lawful."

In another declaration on Freemasonry in 1902, Pope Leo XIII said "Filled with the spirit of Satan, who knows how to transform himself into an angel of light, Freemasonry puts forward as its pretended aim the good of humanity. Paying a lip service to the authority of law, and even to the obligations of religion, it aims (as its own statutes declare), at the destruction of civil authority and of the Christian priesthood, both of which it regards as the foes of human liberty." - Parvenu a la Vingtcinquieme annee, Given in Rome at St. Peter's, to March 19, 1902, twenty-fifth year of Our Pontificate.

Monsignor George F. Dillon wrote a book on this, titled The War of Anti-Christ With the Church and Christian Civilization. As Wikipedia explains, "George F. Dillon was a 19th-century Catholic missionary and writer from Ireland. He became well known in 1884 for having given conferences in Edinburgh about what he claimed to be a Masonic war against Christian civilization. His speeches were later compiled with his best known book 'War of Anti-Christ with the Church and Christian Civilization' after being read a summary Pope Leo XIII approved of the work and funded the publication of the Italian version."

Regarding the masons, Pope Pius VIII said "Their Law is Untruth: Their God is the Devil and their Cult is Turpitude." Pope Pius XII, in his Address to the Seventh Week Pastoral Adaptation Conference in Italy (1958) said "...the roots of modern apostasy lay in scientific atheism, dialectical materialism, rationalism, illuminism, laicism, and Freemasonry - which is the mother of them all."

"It has been asked whether there has been any change in the Church's decision in regard to Masonic associations since the new Code of Canon Law does not mention them expressly, unlike the previous Code. This Sacred Congregation is in a position to reply that this circumstance is due to an editorial criterion which was followed also in the case of other associations likewise unmentioned inasmuch as they are contained in wider categories. Therefore the Church's negative judgment in regard to Masonic associations remains unchanged since their principles have always been considered irreconcilable with the doctrine of the Church and therefore membership in them remains forbidden. The faithful who enroll in Masonic associations are in a state of grave sin and may not receive Holy Communion. It is not within the competence of local ecclesiastical authorities to give a judgment on the nature of Masonic associations which would imply a derogation from what has been decided above, and this in line with the Declaration of this Sacred Congregation issued on 17 February 1981 (cf. AAS 73 [1981] pp. 240-241)."
DECLARATION ON MASONIC ASSOCIATIONS Issued by the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on November 26, 1983.

Masonic Family Values : "Buried in a document of the Pontifical Council for Culture, dated March 13, 2004, is this surprising observation concerning the state of religious belief in the world: "A certain cultural hostility is being spread against religions, especially Christianity and Catholicism in particular, notably through the means of social communication, and is promoted by Masonic sources active in different organizations... When all is said and done, Liberty has always meant emancipation from the claims of the Catholic Church on men and nations, or what Pierre Manent has called "the Church's complete subordination to the body politic." Hence the incessant propaganda of colonial pamphleteers against "Popery" had the same object as the outright genocide of the Catholic hierarchy by the Jacobins of France: the suppression of what Pope Leo called "the power of that divine religion which the Freemasons hate in proportion to their fear of it." The Masonic mind's hatred and fear of Christ and His Church was summed up in Voltaire's famous epithet "ecrasons l'infame!" ("let us crush the infamous one"). The Lodge of Nine Muses inducted Voltaire into the Craft in 1778. In attendance was his American Masonic brother, Benjamin Franklin.

John F. Kennedy, the nation's first and only Roman Catholic president, gave this speech to The American Newspaper Publishers Association shortly before he was assassinated:
"The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarrented concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it. Even today, there is little value in opposing the threat of a closed society by imitating it's arbitrary actions. Even today, there is little value in assuring the survival of our nation if our traditions do not survive with it. And there is very grave danger that an announced need for increased security will be seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment. That I do not intend to permit to the extent that it is in my control."

Founding Fathers Speak Out Against Freemasonry

"We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth... For my part, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst; and to provide for it." -PATRICK HENRY

John Quincy Adams, The Sixth President of The United States said: "I am prepared to complete the demonstration before God and man, that the Masonic oaths, obligations and penalties, cannot, by any possibility, be reconciled to the laws of morality, of Christianity, or of the land." J.Q. Adam's letter to Ed. Livingston.

Samuel Adams, The Father of the Revolution said: "I am decidedly opposed to all secret societies whatever!"

John Hancock, President of the Continental Congress said: "I am opposed to all secret societies."

James Madison, The Fourth President of the United States said: "From the number and character of those who now support the charges against Freemasonry, I cannot doubt that it is at least susceptible of abuse, outweighing any advantages promised by its patrons."

Freemasons: Their Own Words Convict Them

"Lucifer, the Light-bearer! Strange and mysterious name to give to the Spirit of Darkness! Lucifer, the son of the morning! Is it he who bears the Light, and with it's splendors intolerable blinds feeble, sensual or selfish Souls? Doubt it not!

In one of his last letters before his death, freemason Thomas Jefferson wrote:
"May it be to the world, what I believe it will be (to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all), the signal of arousing men to burst the chains under which monkish ignorance and superstition had persuaded them to bind themselves, and to assume the blessings and security of self-government."

National Geographic Magazine: Power Party - Photograph by Gabriel Moulin, 1915
"To purge himself of worldly concerns, a member of the elite Bohemian Club participated in a 1915 Cremation of Care ceremony - complete with candles and a robed and hooded comrade to guide him. This private club of influential men still meets annually north of San Francisco and uses this symbolic ritual to kick off its summer retreat. But today the ceremony involves burning a mummy-like effigy named Care at the foot of the group's mascot: a 40-foot-tall (12-meter-tall) concrete owl."

"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil: that put. darkness for light, and light for darkness: that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter." Isaiah 5:20

BEHIND THE LODGE DOOR: Church, State and Freemasonry in America, By Paul A. Fisher.
"The Devil is the Father of Lies and lying is the way of those who do the work of the Devil. This book traces the secret activities of Freemasonry in America and uncovers the lie that Masonry is a harmless fraternal organization of men who spend their time doing innocent things such as holding parades, dinners and circuses, or conducting business deals during card games. Instead, we find these men doing the work of the Devil by conducting an unrelenting warfare against Christ and His Church. Their hatred of the Catholic Church in America is exposed in detail with the decisions of Supreme Court Judges, Presidents, Congressmen and Senators who were Masons. This book makes clear that the furor over Supreme Court appointments is, in reality, a battle for the soul of the American people."

The founders warned us that we should not give up liberty under the guise of security. Anytime the government wants us to give up liberties out of fear, or in order to "keep us safe", it's most likely done as a rouse, or under a false pretext.

"Because it is so unbelievable, the Truth often escapes being known." -Heraclitus, ~500 B.C. ,

"No matter how paranoid or conspiracy-minded you are, what the government is actually doing is worse than you imagine." -J. Edgar Hoover

"I am concerned for the security of our great nation, not so much because of any threat from without, but because of the insidious forces working from within." - General Douglas MacArthur

"The great mass of people...will more easily fall victim to a big lie than to a small one." -Adolph Hitler

"The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive." -Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to Abigail Adams,

"All men having power ought to be distrusted to a certain degree." - James Madison

What Happened to World Trade Center Building 7?
Larry Silverstein, leaseholder for the WTC buildings, said on a PBS documentary:

"I remember getting a call from the, er, fire department commander, telling me that they were not sure they were gonna be able to contain the fire, and I said, 'We've had such terrible loss of life, maybe the smartest thing to do is pull it.' And they made that decision to pull and we watched the building collapse."

From Robert S. Mueller, III, Director, FBI Commonwealth Club of California San Francisco, CA April 19, 2002 [FBI.gov]; http://www.fbi.gov/pressrel/speeches/speech041902.htm "The hijackers also left no paper trail. In our investigation, we have not uncovered a single piece of paper - either here in the U.S. or in the treasure trove of information that has turned up in Afghanistan and elsewhere - that mentioned any aspect of the September 11th plot."
FBI says, "No hard evidence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11"
On June 5, 2006, the Muckraker Report contacted the FBI Headquarters, (202) 324-3000, to learn why Bin Laden's Most Wanted poster did not indicate that Usama was also wanted in connection with 9/11. The Muckraker Report spoke with Rex Tomb, Chief of Investigative Publicity for the FBI. When asked why there is no mention of 9/11 on Bin Laden's Most Wanted web page, Tomb said, "The reason why 9/11 is not mentioned on Usama Bin Laden's Most Wanted page is because the FBI has no hard evidence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11."

In September 2000, a group of neo-conservative chickenhawk warmongers with radical ideas about an agressive foreign policy and empire building penned and signed a document titled 'Rebuilding America's Defenses: Strategies, Forces, and Resources For a New Century, 2000, Project for the New American Century'. They called for a "New Pearl Harbor', a traumatic disaster, that would get the people to support their empire. A mere one year later, they coincidentally got their wish.

Section V of Rebuilding America's Defenses, entitled "Creating Tomorrow's Dominant Force", includes the sentence: "Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event; like a new Pearl Harbor"

10 [PNAC members] are now in the Bush administration. As well as Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz, they include Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage; John Bolton, who is undersecretary of state for disarmament; and Zalmay Khalilzad, the White House liaison to the Iraqi opposition. Other signatories include William Kristol, editor of the conservative Weekly Standard magazine, and Richard Perle, chairman of the advisory Defense Science Board. [ABC News 3/10/2003]

"Like his father, Bush tries to keep a daily diary of his thoughts and observations. That night, he dictated: "The Pearl Harbor of the 21st century took place today." [Washington Post]

On June 2, 2001 PNAC signatory Paul Wolfowitz predicted a military surprise:
"Military history is full of surprises, even if few are as dramatic or memorable as Pearl Harbor. Surprises happen so often, that is is surprising that we're still surprised by it. ... Be prepared to be surprised. Have courage." [defenselink.mil]

NOTE 7/28/13: Recently the front page of of my site has become too crowded, so I have created a LibertyFight.com Classics Page. I hope you enjoy perusing the site and reading over the body of work which I have compiled over the years. On this page are some of my favorites and also some of the most popular & well-trafficked stories that I have written. You may recognize some of these articles but not realized until now that you've been to my site before. This is because LibertyFight is not a site that people visit 'daily' for news. It is not a news aggregate site that is updated daily; But rather, it is a site that provides content generally to other leading alternative news websites and is also occasionally linked to and referred to by 'mainstream' news websites and well-known pundits. Thanks for visiting. :-)
