After being exposed on youtube for his maniacal and violent criminal behavior of assaulting a schoolboy, North Carolina Congressman Bob Etheridge appeared teary eyed on CNN, choking up as he apologized for his behavior. He later issued a brief statement on his Congressional website as well, stating

“I have seen the video posted on several blogs. I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction and I apologize to all involved. Throughout my many years of service to the people of North Carolina, I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect. No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response. I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse.”

Etheridge is an active freemason, and it is interesting to note that in the few days since this assault was publicized worldwide, a wikipedia link acknowledging Etheridge's involvement in masonry has been completely scrapped; although a simple internet search will reveal thousands of pages have already cached the information:
"Bob Etheridge is a member of the New Democrat Coalition. He is active in Freemasonry and is currently the Grand Orator for North Carolina Freemasonry."

According to THE MASON, which touts itself as the "Official Publication of The Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of North Carolina', Etheridge was the "grand orator for the Grand Lodge" in 2000. It also reveals that "Etheridge joined Lillington 302 in 1984 during his second term in the North Carolina General Assembly. Tom Brown, the local mayor, was his Masonic coach and mentor".

Etheridge was featured and pictured on page 3 of the the November/ December 2000 'North Carolina Mason' publication, in a section titled 'Rep. Etheridge Visits Home'. The paper stated, in part, "Bob Etheridge, 2nd District representative to the US Congress and member of Lillington 302 visited the Home in the fall. He toured the School of Graphic Arts, the infirmary, the baby cottage, and ended his visit with a reception in the chapel.."

In a touch of irony, freemason Etheridge is pictured in the photo dressed in a suit standing next to two young schoolboys. In another front page feaure story on the Congressman, The Mason points out that Etheridge served in the State legislature and for eight years as State Superintendent of Schools in North Carolina before running for Congress in 1997.

Etheridge is featured many times in the publication over the years. Howard Coble, also a U.S. Congresman from the 6th District of North Carolina since 1985, is a freemason featured in a 1999 issue of THE MASON.

Etheridge was not featured in the recent CNN segment that profiled some active freemasonic members of the U.S. Congress.

Paul Joseph Watson covered the Etheridge issue on Alex Jones radio program. It was also widely circulated on the internet and news channels. The Washington Post ran an article Rep. Bob Etheridge's assault on student has plenty of precedent. Etheridge is now trailing in the polls to his female Republican opponent Renee Ellmers. Ellmers, a nurse who teaches Sunday School at a Catholic Church, has released a response video and wants some answers from the Congressman.
